Menu System

This template uses standard FrontPage Navigation.  The lower "Main Pages" menu, containing the link to Home and Secondary page levels, is set to "Child Pages Under Home", with "Include Home Page" checked.

The secondary level menu varies from page to page, depending on which page you are on.  This page, for example, is a child page to the "Introduction" page, so, on *this* page the second level is set to "same level", so it can locate other links on the same level.

If you are unfamiliar with FrontPage navigation, please take the time to look at how the various menus are set up.  In Normal view, simply right-click over the menu, and select Link Bar Properties.  That page will show you what we have selected for the various levels.

Step by Step

One of the MOST frequently asked questions we receive is how to make multiple vertical menu systems in FrontPage.  Actually, it's simple.  All of our FrontPage templates are driven by the FP navigational view.  Our initial menu is set to "Child Pages Under Home", and "Include Home Page" is checked.  Take a look at the structure of your web (View, Navigation).  There is one "Home" page (it has a little house on it), and there are pages underneath that look like a family tree or organizational chart.  Those are considered "Child Pages Under Home", but they are ALSO considered "Child Pages" to the Home page itself.

Now, let's assume one page on that second level is named "Products," and beneath "Products," there are four pages named Product 1, Product 2, Product 3, and Product 4.  The four pages just mentioned are "Child Pages" to "Products," and "Same Level" pages to one another.

To add links to the individual product pages from the page "Products" in Normal View, first left click once over the existing link bar to highlight it, then copy (CTRL+C).  Next, hit the right arrow on your keyboard once (to get the the right of the link bar), then hit Enter.  Now, paste the Link Bar (CTRL+V).  You have a duplicate of the initial menu in place.  Right click over it and select "Link Bar Properties" from the pop-up menu, then change it from "Child Pages Under Home" to "Child Pages" - and UNcheck the "Include Home Page".

To add links to the lower level pages, follow the same steps, EXCEPT - for the final step, you will select "Same Level" rather than "Child Pages".
